freemthose years, both /opt and /usr/local are owned by root:root though, I think. /usr/local *used* to be owned by root:staff, but that changed in some "recent" debian00:01
yetion pubnixens I use ~/opt00:05

Guest50Hello,06:37
Guest50I’m encountering a problem while trying to install Devuan 5.0.1. When I select the official archive mirror (deb.devuan.org), I get an error in console #4:06:37
Guest50"mirror does not support the specified release (daedalus)"06:37
Guest50The same issue occurs with many other mirrors located in Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, and other countries. So far, I’ve only managed to install the distribution by using mirrors from Poland and Romania.06:37
Guest50Why does this error happen even with the primary mirror (deb.devuan.org)? Is there a known issue with certain regions or mirror synchronization? Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated.06:37
gnarfacewell if Guest50 comes back tell them to stick around longer...07:05
joergchanlogs might still be useful if feeded ;-)08:36

XFaCEQuick question, is there any resource that explains how Devuan implements the FHS? This is in regards to partition planning. I could just install Devuan into a temporary locaton and then determine the structure that way, at worst, but I would prefer to skip that process.18:23
hagbardI don't know of any docs, but there's nothing unusal that sets it apart from other distros. But as in Debian, there's usrmerge. https://salsa.debian.org/md/usrmerge/raw/master/debian/README.Debian18:26
XFaCEhagbard: There are some considerations because of the lack of systemd, such as not needing /var/log/journal mounted with POSIX ACL for instance, but that does help, thank you. And thank you as well for confirming that usr merge did happen.18:27
XFaCEIt would seem I can follow Debian documentation with consideration of systemd exceptions based on what you've said hagbard ?18:28
hagbardBasically Devuan is the same as Debian, except systemd. So if debian documentation does not involve systemd, it is very likely to fit vor devuan as well.18:29
XFaCENice, thanks again.18:30
plasma41XFaCE: See this section of Debian policy https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-opersys.html#file-system-hierarchy19:02

paculinoIf I change in my apt pinning and source the codenames to testing and experimental, will apt remember what used those after the next release?22:52
gnarfaceno22:53
gnarfacedon't do that, you'll forget you did it and the next release will hose your system22:53
gnarfacewe strongly advise using only the actual release names in all contexts22:53
gnarfacethen the worst thing that can happen is you'll just stop getting updates, which is both obvious when it happens and carries significantly less risk22:55
gnarfaceactual release upgrades don't always have to be completely hand-held, but it's often enough a problem that it's strongly discouraged to use the testing/unstable/stable keywords22:56
gnarface... especially since even if a unexpected release upgrade goes off without a hitch, it's usually gonna change enough of your overall installation's functionality that it can still cause problems for your workflow22:57
gnarfacethis isn't ever something you want to happen unexpectedly unless you're participating in testing for that exact scenario22:58
paculinoOkay, thank you. I participate in testing and experimental for a couple packages because that's what I was told to do after a bug report23:08
paculino(the only change is in python scripts, so it should be fairly safe)23:09
