freemfsmithred: https://snapper.io/faq.html (which have broken tls) says: « Does snapper support ext4?00:25
freemNo, the support in snapper is discontinued and you need a special kernel and e2fsprogs. For more information see the next4 project.»00:25

AlverstoneDo you think s6 is technically superior to openrc/runit/sysvinit? Their page reads quite bright. It's also almost dead simple too. The only thing I see askew is that the stage one is the thing as ever - a shell script, which brings us back to the legacy of sysvinit with its already polished startup scripts that work very well but don't quite fit anywhere either21:50
gnarfaceAlverstone: it seems to have some more advanced features but the big question to me is how well it's supported23:17
gnarfacethough i don't claim to be directly familiar with it23:17
freemAlverstone: technically superior to runit, yes, it have more features, for certain23:47
freembut it shares a systemd problem: complexity and learning curve, even if lower than systemd23:47
Alverstonefreem, i think it is several orders of magnitude simpler that systemd. what's complex about it?23:49
Alverstonegnarface, my system is super simple there isn't much to support23:49
freemyou are right, but also orders of magnitude more complex than runit :p23:49
freemthe nice point is that it can do dependency checks, imo, other stuff... don't care.23:50
Alverstonewhat is more complex? in terms of usage and maintenance it seems dead simple. basically runit + socket activation (who needs it at all?) + service notifications instead of sv start dependency || exit 123:51
freemlearning23:53
freemrunit is pure shell, s6 uses a DSL23:53
Alverstonelearning :(23:54
Alverstones6 uses anything you want I personally can't care for execline as of now23:54
Alverstonehe just "humbly" promotes execline as a solution to whatever23:54
Alverstoneyeah /bin/sh isn't that simple I just don't know why'd you want anything else if /bin/sh already works and occupies minimum of resources23:55
freemdon't take me wrong, I think s6 is a better solution, but runit is a brainless thing when you know shell23:56
freemand because there is no dependency handling, it is damn simple23:56
Alverstonehow do you feel about basically using sysvinit as stage 1? (s6 doesn't solve it either, just asking)23:57
Alverstoneand half of stage 3 for that matter23:57
freemI don't know what the heck are the sysVinit stages useful at23:59
freemrunit doe snot have them neither23:59
