dosensuppegreetings. the package snapper doesn't work properly. the apt hook works but timeline doesn't. I suppose it still expects the systemd timers, but snapper also works fine with cronjobs as I use it on gentoo without systemd. any way I can assist fixing this issue?16:16
gnarfacedosensuppe: maybe... stick around16:39
gnarfacei'm not familiar with snapper, does it depend on snapd?16:40
gnarfacedoes it depend on any of these packages, in fact? http://deb.devuan.org/bannedpackages.txt16:40
golinux<dosensuppe> It seems to be in the repos so the failure lies elsewhere: https://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/policy-query.html?c=package&q=snapper&x=submit16:45
gnarfaceis it possible it's a minor config issue, and debian's defaults merely assume systemd but it can be changed? (possibly by doing a diff between the debian and gentoo configs?)16:48
gnarfaceit wouldn't be the first time debian broke gentoo's expected behavior...16:49
dosensuppehmm. debian uses a different directory: /etc/default/snapper instead of /etc/snapper16:59
dosensuppe*instead of /etc/conf.d/snapper17:01
gnarfacedosensuppe: try to diff -r them17:13
gnarfacemaybe the functional difference will be obvious17:13
dosensuppeI downloaded the artix package: https://packages.artixlinux.org/packages/world/x86_64/snapper/17:49
dosensuppeit has a script in /etc/cron.hourly17:50
dosensuppewhich the devuan package doesn't create17:50
gnarfacedosensuppe: interesting... sounds like more sabotage. does it start working if you add it?17:52
dosensuppejust copied it17:52
dosensuppesabotage?17:52
gnarfacewe've been tracking a long and growing list of stuff that they've broken by removing config files "because nobody is using them anymore"17:54
dosensuppeyou mean the devs of the packages?17:54
gnarfaceyea, debian maintainers. just, try to figure out if that's the only thing wrong with it, and we'll figure out what to do from there.17:55
dosensuppealright17:55
dosensuppejust copying over the script didn't do it19:02
gnarfacehmm19:02
gnarfacewell that's a bummer19:03
gnarfacedid you find any other config file differences other than the paths they're stored in?19:03
gnarfaceand which devaun release is this? daedalus?19:10
dosensuppeyes19:10
gnarfacedid you find any other config file differences other than the paths they're stored in?19:11
dosensuppeI can't find libsnapper19:11
dosensuppethe config files seem to be the same19:12
gnarfacein daedalus it's called libsnapper619:13
gnarfacehttps://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/policy-query.html?c=package&q=%5Elibsnapper&x=submit19:13
gnarfacethink that's the problem? that it didn't include that as a dependency automatically?19:13
dosensuppeit wasn't installed19:19
dosensuppeindeed19:19
dosensuppethis is whereis snapper before: snapper: /usr/bin/snapper /usr/lib/snapper /etc/snapper /usr/share/snapper /usr/share/man/man8/snapper.8.gz19:19
dosensuppeand after installation: snapper: /usr/bin/snapper /usr/lib/snapper /etc/snapper /usr/include/snapper /usr/share/snapper /usr/share/man/man8/snapper.8.gz19:19
dosensuppeI will wait, see if the timeline starts by itself19:20
gnarfaceyou ran "ldconfig" once and restarted snapper, right?19:26
gnarfaceor if it's not a daemon and purely a cron process, ldconfig should be sufficient19:26
gnarface... i think19:26
gnarface(depends in some cases; as i said i'm not familiar with snapper)19:26
gnarfaceit occurs to me that if libsnapper being missing was the problem, you should have seen some errors about it somewhere... maybe in the cron log19:27
gnarfaceor the system log or something19:27
dosensuppeI can't find anything in the cron log19:47
dosensuppehttps://pastebin.com/XCRRDdXk19:47
dosensuppetest20:14
dosensuppe   /var/log/cron.log.120:14
dosensuppeguess I'm a retard. I will try a different cron daemon20:17
dosensuppeno I'm afraid libsnapper was not the proble20:28
dosensuppe*problem20:29
gnarfacedosensuppe: sorry, apologies but i'm too paranoid for pastebin. if you put it paste.debian.net i'll look, but i'm assuming by context that looking won't help me solve the issue...21:52
gnarfacefsmithred: looking like we might have a problem with the snapper package here21:53
gnarface(user reports it is working in debian and gentoo but not devuan)21:54
dosensuppeyes. sorry the log is was not related to the issue anyways.22:14
dosensuppesnapper also works on artix which is a systemd free fork of arch22:15
dosensuppehttps://packages.artixlinux.org/packages/world/x86_64/snapper/22:16
fsmithreddosensuppe, can you file a bug report against that package? Use the email instructions here: https://bugs.devuan.org/Reporting.html  Thanks!22:23
dosensuppeyes. thanks.22:24
fsmithredWhat does this mean? "Supported filesystems are btrfs and ext4 (discontinued)..."22:32
fsmithredwhat's discontinued? Snapper support for ext4???22:32
