_RandomHi how can I install newer firmware for ateros ath10k_pci 6174   https://dpaste.com/3BNYKSZW4  The installed  firmware-atheros/stable-backports,now 20240709-2~bpo12+1 all [installed & the current kernel is 6.12.9+bpo-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.12.9-1~bpo12+1 (2025-01-19) thanks !05:30
_RandomI know there is a 2025 version of atheros but I'm not sure how to search for it from the commandline in backports, thanks05:32
_RandomDamm, this is what I have installed firmware-atheros/stable-backports,now 20240709-2~bpo12+1 all [installed]. This isuues is not present on some other Linux flavours.05:41
gnarface_Random: firmware is just files you can copy manually if you think you found a trustworthy source for newer versions, though often you also need a corresponding kernel driver update; you probably need to also install the kernel from backports since you got this firmware from there05:47
gnarfacei would recommend trying that first05:49
gnarfaceyou can search for devuan packages across all releases at pkginfo.devuan.org05:49
gnarface(how new is this hardware anyway, do you actually think you need the 2025 version??)05:52
gnarfacethere might be newer versions in the later, unfinished releases, but it's not typically advised you use those unless you're interested in helping get them finished because well, they're unfinished05:53
gnarfacelikewise it's not advised to mix parts of them in with the stable release05:53
gnarface...though it's sometimes possible to do more safely if you recompile the packages yourself05:54
gnarface(i didn't actually look at your paste, please use paste.debian.net or just /msg the contents to me if you actually want me to look, but i'm assuming i've covered the appropriate info already)05:55
_Randomthis is a centos driver, is there a way to convert this for devuan atheros-firmware-20250212-13.el10.noarch.rpm07:44
gnarfaceis it actually the driver or just the firmware?07:45
gnarfaceand did you try the suggestions i already gave you?07:46
gnarfacei think you're trying to find an easier solution but this isn't, it's quite the opposite07:47
gnarfaceyou might be able to use their firmware or their drivers without their kernel, but it's unlikely, and definitely not easier, and you'd probably have to use their whole kernel with them07:48
gnarfaceit's quite possible but really a lot of work, and not guaranteed to work with all the apps07:49
gnarfacethere's a tool called "alien" which is in the repos, that's ostensibly for converting and installing rpms, but i couldn't tell you if it could be trusted to work right for this type of thing without hand-holding07:52
gnarfacenever actually tried it myself07:53
_Random@gnarface: IO appreciate your asistance, I'm not technical, i've never compile a pkg, or coded, so I'm unsure how to commence, truthfullt I'd like to learn. But I'm a dinosaur in relation to that. o I wouldn't know where to start..07:54
_Randomhttps://paste.debian.net/1360125/07:56
gnarface_Random: well start by trying the daedalus-backports kernel to go with the daedalus-backports firmware-atheros package you reported earlier that didn't work; it might work if you have the right kernel07:56
gnarfacethe package name will start with "linux-image-6"07:56
gnarfacehang on i'll try to find it...07:57
_RandomI see, thats this for this kernel 'bpo12+1' that makes sense.07:57
gnarfacehttps://pkginfo.devuan.org/cgi-bin/policy-query.html?c=package&q=%5Elinux%5C-image%5C-6%5C.12%5C.12.*bpo&x=submit07:58
gnarfaceone of these, i assume07:58
gnarfaceprobably this one, if you're in doubt: linux-image-6.12.12+bpo-amd6407:59
gnarfaceif that doesn't work, i'd recommend you just copy those missing firmware files from your dmesg errors manually to see if it works then08:00
gnarface(the missing firmware files may or may not be relevant to the hardware you're using, as far as i know, but i assume you're not seeing those errors on the redhat install)08:01
_Randomthankyou, I've removed the +bpo from backports08:01
gnarface??08:01
gnarfacei'm not sure i follow...08:02
_Randomno. on devuan install08:06
_Randomthis is a devuan install not redhat, and they are mp devuan errors08:06
metalaIf you still want to convert an rpm to deb, there was a tool called alien(1). I haven't used it for more than a decade, so I don't know if it would be useful for you.21:46
