freemangordonWizzup: hmm, I think we made a mistaker07:21
freemangordonwe shouldn't have changed gconf, but debhelper (or some other package) instead07:21
freemangordon/usr/share/perl5/Debian/Debhelper/Sequence/root_sequence.pm:[14, 'dh_gconf'],07:22
freemangordonthis is on daedalus07:22
freemangordonso, we just need to find a way to install dh_gconf07:23
freemangordonas it not also moves files, but also adds gconf2 dependency to the package07:28
freemangordonmaybe we shall just fork debhelper and do partial revert of b4cbfe7d2fd4f1e428500f6de1b2a65d21673ae107:34
freemangordoninstead of forking gconf07:34
Wizzupfreemangordon: I was hoping to avoid forking debhelper09:03
freemangordonthen maybe we can add dh_gconf to maemo-system-services-dev09:17
freemangordonbut, who will invoke it?09:17
freemangordonwe will have to edit all the packages09:17
freemangordonagain09:17
Wizzupwhy can't we go with our fix from yesterday09:18
Wizzupif all it is a depend on gconf, that should be easy09:18
Wizzupor does this interfere with our build process as well09:18
freemangordonI think it *might* interfere with image building, like, if gconf is not installed)or configure, not sure) before a $package is installed, then gconf trigger will not be executed09:21
freemangordonwell, maybe you can tweak image building to install gconf first09:22
freemangordonor, add gconf as pre-depends on some of the meta packages09:22
Wizzupall of it kinda sucks09:23
freemangordonI know09:23
Wizzupso the line you shared, doesn't that already invoke dh_gconf?09:23
freemangordonlemme check what it exactly does09:23
freemangordonno, it will not09:25
Wizzupok09:25
Wizzupsorry, I have to go for the next hour or so, back later09:26
WizzupI'm also fine with forking dh09:26
freemangordonok09:26
Wizzupwhatever makes this less painful09:26
freemangordonI think that will be easiest09:26
Wizzupbtw, if we do that we might as well go straight to trixie ande just build gconf for it, no?10:26
WizzupI guess maybe that is a bit too ambitious currently10:40
Wizzupfreemangordon: so I should hold off on fixing all our gconf pkgs?11:02
WizzupI don't know quite what know debhelper to build11:05
sicelostarts to look like the gconf->gsettings transition needs to start pretty soon12:56
Wizzupif you have a few spare months :)12:57
WizzupI did a quick search and it looks like about 90 pkgs uses  gconf12:58
Wizzupand we also use gconf in a way that gsettings doesn't like - writing to keys outside of schemas, we'd have to mark some keys differently I tihnk12:58
Wizzupfreemangordon: with your recent wifi change, does the wifi actually ever disconnect?13:22
uvos__the schemas are also all in reverse13:26
uvos__or at least many13:26
uvos__reading or writeing a gsettings key for witch no schema exits is an error, but in maemo the settings program's applet owns all the schemas13:27
uvos__so mce will crash with an assert if not every settings applet is installed13:27
uvos__same thing for all maemo services13:28
uvos__this creates a bunch of dependancy loops, since the services require the applets that require the services13:28
uvos__really the schemas need to be owned by the services13:28
Wizzupyes13:29
Wizzupwhich means it'll be a significant undertaking :D13:29
uvos__yeah13:30
inkywhen i run install.sh from bionic-clown-boot repo (root404.sh is successful) i get permission denied messages14:25
inkyadb: error: failed to copy 'scripts/kexebootstart.sh' to '/sdcard/kexebootstart.sh': remote Permission denied14:25
inkylike this14:25
inkywhen i enter recovery, the manual says to enter recovery and14:27
inky>select wipe data/factory reset14:27
inkyi just see that laying android photo with  ! and opened belly.14:28
inkyi cannot wipe data/reset. but i did it from android, factory reset.14:28
inkyi also restored everything by flashing the stock system.img14:28
uvos__inky: you have to press both vol up and vol down at the same time for the menu to pop up over the dead android14:33
uvos__you may have to have a (fat32 formated, visible in android) sdcard inserted for it to work i dont remember that detail14:34
uvos__you also have to reboot between rooting and installin14:35
uvos__g14:35
uvos__if you reflashed system you also have to reroot14:36
inkywill write, have to deviate...14:41
utilisateurcc cv15:22
Wizzupsomeone is adding Tamil translation to our pkgs :)15:32
Wizzupfreemangordon: lmk what you want reverted in debhelper and I can do it15:32
Wizzuphttps://salsa.debian.org/debian/debhelper15:33
siceloWizzup: maybe create an issue on GH listing those gconf pkgs. whenever someone has a spare moment, they could have a look16:41
siceloperhaps it's possible to work on one (or a few) packages at a time. no idea16:41
WizzupI do not think it will be too easy16:45
Wizzupmany pkgs read/expect the same key16:45
Wizzupfreemangordon: genuinely wondering if we should not try for trixie if we will fork gconf and dh anyway16:46
Wizzupwe'd be ahead of the curve then16:46
sicelo+1 to that ...16:47
* sicelo hides16:47
siceloalthough trixie isn't released yet, but clearly won't be changing much until then16:48
WizzupI think we can finish daedalus/bookworm since we-re 95% there and almost all the work we do for it helps trixie too16:51
Wizzupbut let's then also work on trixie after16:51
siceloheh, bookworm is EOL mid-next year. Only just realized17:00
siceloanyway LTS will take it to 202817:01
Wizzupyeah17:02
Wizzupdoing daedalus/bookworm also allows for a dist upgrade path17:07
Wizzupmore easier one hopefully17:07
sicelobtw migrating to trixie will also have the issue of usrmerge ... but i guess shouldn't bite us too hard17:11
freemangordondo we want to spend time now migrating to gsettings?17:11
freemangordonI don;t htink it will be that easy17:11
Wizzupfreemangordon: no, we'd build gconf for trixie17:12
Wizzup:D17:12
freemangordonoh17:14
freemangordonno, please17:14
freemangordonwhat is the issue of bringing dh_gconf back in debhelper?17:15
Wizzupfreemangordon: why 'no, please'?17:18
Wizzupfreemangordon: there is no issue with doing that17:18
Wizzupbut if we do that now, why not do it for trixie too17:18
Wizzupotherwise, the moment we're ready, 2-3 months later, debian will stop supporting our base17:18
freemangordonI am not sure what'd we do with mesa17:19
Wizzupbecause of dri2? is that a problem already in trixie?17:19
freemangordondon;t know17:19
Wizzupbtw, I did say let's finish daedalus first and then do excalibus/trixie17:19
freemangordonah, okm17:19
Wizzupbut I think we shouldn't wait, if we agree we can just build gconf17:19
Wizzupand dh17:19
freemangordonok, that sounds more like a plan17:20
freemangordonbut, lets do daedalus first17:20
Wizzupok17:20
Wizzupso do you want me to find the commit in dh that removed gconf and revert it17:20
freemangordonso, what we do now?17:20
freemangordonthe commit is ^^^17:20
WizzupI think we keep our gconf as well (why not), but then also build dh17:20
freemangordonb4cbfe7d2fd4f1e428500f6de1b2a65d21673ae117:20
freemangordonno need of gconf (for daedalus) if we build dh17:21
Wizzuptrue, but we have it already17:22
Wizzupand we'd have to build it for trixie anyway17:22
Wizzupso I won't remove our upstream fork repo17:22
Wizzupbut we can remove it from daedalus if you like17:22
freemangordonsure, but we don;t need the change17:22
Wizzupok17:22
freemangordonyeah, remove it from daedalus and revert that change17:22
Wizzupgconf is gone from daedalus17:23
Wizzuprevert that change = build dh with that commit reverted?17:23
freemangordonyou can't just revert it, there is conflict because of the translations17:24
freemangordonanyway yes, build dh with that commit revertied and conflicts fixed17:24
Wizzupok17:28
Wizzupfreemangordon: he already removed a tag for regular bookworm17:46
Wizzupshall we build bookworm backports, or how do I find 13.11.417:46
Wizzupoh no17:47
Wizzupit is there17:47
Wizzupgitlab just lies17:47
freemangordonthe tag is there17:52
Wizzupfreemangordon: https://github.com/maemo-leste-upstream-forks/debhelper17:56
Wizzupok?17:56
freemangordonlooks like, yes17:58
sicelofreemangordon: btw, regarding upower & n900/d4 fuel gauges, i once did this - https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/blob/4b54fc7f83f9e08e2a80bbeb6a97f871748bf7c6/device/community/linux-postmarketos-omap/0012-bq27xxx_battery-add-voltage-based-capacity-estimatio.patch20:43
siceloworked pretty good, and perhaps could be used in Leste too. it's a kernel patch which is fine since we roll our own kernel anyway. benefit is - mce & upower need no further intelligence.20:44
Wizzup>dh: error: The addon 14 claimed that dh_gconf was obsolete, but it is not!?20:49
Wizzuplol20:49
Wizzupah I see20:51
Wizzupfreemangordon: the debhelper stuff should be in place22:50
