freaxeh2lets setup samba for me10:26
freaxeh2its already installed and heres a partial of my config file: https://paste.debian.net/1349146/10:28
freaxeh2when I change user1 to sambauser and use the username: sambauser and pw of: sambauser I get access to the server under windows10:28
freaxeh2windows 1110:29
freaxeh2but when i change the user to user1 and setup an account underneath the user1 username...10:29
freaxeh2the main issue is accessing it under thunar10:33
rrqwhat is this "windows" you talk about?11:07
fsmithredlol11:09
fsmithredI always had to have the same username and password in win and lin when I set up samba11:10
fsmithredI'm not sure if I ever got it to work with thunar. I only recall using windows explorer to move files.11:13
freaxeh2ok thanks11:14
freaxeh2so how do you guys move files between systems? ssh or sftp11:14
fsmithredmaybe sftp with putty and filezilla11:15
freaxeh2right thanks11:15
freaxeh2and on the server side what software is used?11:15
fsmithredsometimes ssh and copy/paste, usuall sftp for bigger files11:15
fsmithredopenssh-server11:15
freaxeh2ok11:15
freaxeh2that should be all i need11:15
fsmithredand if this is over the internet, set up ssh auth keys11:16
fsmithredand disable password login on the server11:16
fsmithredand recently I learned about magic-wormhole which is for transfering a file to someone else through debian servers. quick and easy.11:18
n4dirfilezilla also worked win-linux, last time i checked. I just use rsync, sshfs if it is "complicated". All Lan11:21
n4dirfsmithred: btw, antix has something which is kind of a temporary web-server, where you can quickly move files to a remote, different user. I always forget the name11:22
n4dirmagic wormhole is easy to remember :-)11:22
fsmithredI use rsync a lot locally11:22
n4dirthe name was droopy11:27
freaxeh2how do I list the owner of a directory11:28
fsmithredls -l of the dir above it11:28
freaxeh2ty11:29
rrqls -ld dir11:29
freaxeh2think i've found my problem11:29
freaxeh2directory ownership is sambauser11:29
freaxeh2when it should be something else, but what, user1?11:30
fsmithredor change the permissions11:30
freaxeh2or that11:30
fsmithredfor example, if both users are in same group give group access11:30
fsmithredor 777 to share with the world11:30
freaxeh2thought i did give 777 to all of the files11:31
freaxeh2must've mucked something up11:31
fsmithredI think the dir needs it, too11:31
fsmithredor at least be able to enter11:31
freaxeh2yep that makes sense11:32
freaxeh2yeah thunar just doesn't wanna work11:45
freaxeh2simple as that11:45
WampHello!15:12
debdogoy!15:13
WampI'm looking for help with email, specifically to make a mail server I run send emails from (like my email client does) a Gmail address. I suppose by having it connect to a Google server over SMTP.15:15
WampThe point is I want to control my Gmail account without storing Google credentials on my phone. That'd be worth setting up my own mailserver in the same.go15:16
WampOy debdog15:17
WampI have a few servers and domain names available now so I figure it's time I do my own mail. But how do I set it up to have a good chance at re-using my Gmail "rep"?15:19
al1r4di cant help. i never connect a gmail account with external client16:04
fsmithredI had to stop using gmail to send mail from a script. Can't remember if they made it impossible or if I just didn't want to set up oauth with it.16:12
gnarfacethey already left16:14
djphpoor guy, doesn't understand email at all :(17:07
XenguyI had a look at droopy and it is interesting, but I suspect that to use it to receive files from someone on the internet, you'd probably need to set up some port forwarding rules on your router (which I didn't bother trying to do)...18:24
XenguyAlso if you wanted an encrypted transfer you'd need to get droopy to work with https...18:25
XenguySo I think it would certainly take more work to get running than magic wormhole, which is more a turnkey solution that 'just works'18:26
n4dirthe thing about it is it is "on the fly", not with any further configuration, that is what i understood, but i never used it18:29
fsmithredn4dir, want to try magic-wormhole?18:32
n4dirfsmithred: we did try it a few weeks ago18:33
fsmithredoh18:33
n4dirgetting old, huh? :-)18:33
fsmithredsorry, I forgot. Too many distractions.18:33
n4dirwell, in my world not a lot happens, to me it is easy to remember the bit which happens18:33
n4dirand the name is so funny18:33
metalafsmithred: they still support app passwords19:32
metalagmail, that is.19:33
fsmithredyeah, but they wouldn't take mail from mutt and send it along19:33
metalawhy is that?19:34
fsmithredpart of their anti-spam efforts, I think19:34
metalamutt has SMTPS support, doesn't it?19:34
fsmithredyes19:34
fsmithredit used to work with gmail19:34
fsmithredas I said above, it might have needed some oauth setup and I didn't want to deal with it.19:35
gnarfacethe spam i get suggests it can still be done19:35
fsmithredI just got another mail provider for that19:35
metalaclaws-mail works fine19:35
metalathat would suggest that mutt should do fine, as well.19:36
fsmithredyeah, I see there is mutt_oauth.py19:38
metalaI don't have oauth.19:38
fsmithreddid google decide that I'm special?19:39
metaladid you setup the account with an app password or your main password?19:39
metalaif it's the latter, then that's the problem. You need to create an app password for mutt.19:39
fsmithredwhat is app password and what is main password?19:39
fsmithredmuttrc had the gmail password19:40
metalahttps://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en19:40
metalaof course, it also expects that you use SMTPS and IMAPS19:43
fsmithredlooks like I would need a passkey19:46
metalafor the 2FA? I've surrendered to the machine and I've setup one. I am already broken under the heavy foot of the corporations requiring 2FA.19:48
