| amarsh04 | gnarface, I've replaced all the packages common to both architectures and removed the i386 architecture completely | 03:05 |
|---|---|---|
| gnarface | amarsh04: including the kernel? | 03:05 |
| amarsh04 | yes, this has been a long project | 03:06 |
| gnarface | i could not figure it out myself | 03:06 |
| gnarface | gotta be something hidden in there but not sure what | 03:06 |
| gnarface | bootloader entries maybe? dunno | 03:07 |
| gnarface | maybe some internal apt/dpkg files | 03:07 |
| gnarface | something | 03:07 |
| gnarface | something that doesn't get changed when you just reinstall the package from another arch | 03:07 |
| amarsh04 | I had to use debsnap a lot to get the same versions of the amd64 packages | 03:07 |
| amarsh04 | I'll keep looking to see what it might be | 03:08 |
| gnarface | i may have asked this already but what does "dpkg --print-architecture" return? | 03:08 |
| amarsh04 | amd64 | 03:08 |
| gnarface | hmm, i don't think i even managed to get that far when i tried this last | 03:08 |
| amarsh04 | If I knew about the crossgrader package I may have been able to get through the process more quickly, but it was still tricky enough | 03:09 |
| amarsh04 | I *think* that I now have my i386 to amd64 upgrade finished - the mouse issue seemed to be some event in the boot process that turned off the LED. Un-plugging and plugging the mouse resolved the issue initially. I re-installed all xserver-org packages and dependencies in case anything was accidentally corrupted in the upgrade process. Need to do one more full reboot to confirm things. | 14:39 |
| amarsh04 | gnarface - the cause of the mouse not working was the "powertop" package which had a problematic autotune script which I had disabled on i386 and may have been accidentally re-enabled on cross-grading to amd64 | 15:36 |
