NrmlHowdy everyone. Where can I find linux-headers-6.1.0-9-amd64.deb for download? It's the kernel used in the Daedalus minimal-live ISO, and I need the headers to install ZFS...23:20
dokmaI've just managed to install Devuan onto a Win10 laptop by creating an image with dd, mounting, formatting, debootstarp, set root pass, add wpasupplicant, configure interfaces and then copy it to Win10 laptop and writing it directly to an empty partition using dd for windows. I feel particularly proud.23:21
fsmithredNrml, that would be somewhere on packages.debian.org23:21
dokmaNo sticks or cds needed23:22
Nrmlfsmithred: will check, thanks!23:22
fsmithredlook in pool23:22
fsmithredoh you can search that page23:22
Nrml"Sorry, your search gave no results23:24
fsmithreddokma, you did that while running windows or running linux on another partition?23:24
fsmithredNrml, be less specific?23:24
fsmithredor try archive.debian.org (but it's new enough to be in the main pool)23:25
dokmafsmithred: laptop was running windows the whole time. I sshed into a linux box to create the image via putty23:25
NrmlYep, I tried linux-headers-6.1.0 without the "-9", and many packages show up -- but all of them starting at "-18". And I need "-9" so I can install ZFS (zfs-dkms won't install without the headers corresponding to the exact kernel the system was booted with)23:26
fsmithredI'm not getting any hits on that search engine. I think it's broken.23:27
fsmithredhttps://www.debian.org/distrib/packages   <- Try this23:29
Nrmlfsmithred: thanks!23:30
fsmithredNrml, I don't see that version on this page: http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/linux/23:33
Nrmlfsmithred: https://packages.debian.org/search?suite=all&section=all&arch=any&searchon=names&keywords=linux-headers -> the newest that shows up is 5.1023:33
Nrmlfsmithred: I don't see it either. But it's the kernel that boots from the Devuan Daedalus minimal-live image.23:34
Nrmlstraight from the machine I'm trying to configure:23:35
Nrmlroot@devuan:~# uname -a23:35
NrmlLinux devuan 6.1.0-9-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.27-1 (2023-05-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux23:35
NrmlAnd here's the message `dpkg-reconfigure zfs-dkms` gives me:23:36
fsmithredI'll check one other place23:36
Nrml                            Loading new zfs-2.1.11 DKMS files...23:36
Nrml                            Building for 6.1.0-9-amd64 6.1.0-24-amd6423:36
Nrml                            Module build for kernel 6.1.0-9-amd64 was skipped since the23:36
Nrml                            kernel headers for this kernel do not seem to be installed.23:36
Nrmlfsmithred: thanks again, and sorry for being a pest :-/23:37
fsmithrednewer kernels don't work for you?23:38
fsmithredI see 6.1.0-1623:38
NrmlThey sure would work. But I need to install ZFS in the minimal-live so I can mount a ZFS pool from it23:39
NrmlIs there a way to boot minimal-live with a newer kernel?23:39
fsmithredhow much ram do you have? If you have enough you can install whatever you want in the live session, shit! No, you lose it if you reboot.23:41
fsmithredI made a daedalus live-iso with backports kernel and I think I included the headers.23:42
fsmithredrecently23:42
NrmlI have 32GB RAM, would it be enough?23:42
Nrmlno problem losing if I reboot23:42
fsmithredyeah 32 i smore than enough23:43
NrmlBut AFAIK there's no way ro install a newer kernel in *-live because it would need a reboot, no?23:43
fsmithredcorrect23:44
Nrmlhummmrmr23:44
Nrmllet me check one thing23:44
fsmithredmy bpo iso has 6.9.723:44
Nrmlroot@devuan:~# dpkg -l | grep -i linux-image23:44
Nrmlii  linux-image-6.1.0-24-amd64           6.1.106-2                              amd64        Linux 6.1 for 64-bit PCs (signed)23:44
Nrmlii  linux-image-6.1.0-9-amd64            6.1.27-1                               amd64        Linux 6.1 for 64-bit PCs (signed)23:44
Nrmlii  linux-image-amd64                    6.1.106-2                              amd64        Linux for 64-bit PCs (meta-package)23:45
fsmithredbetter not to paste a lot of lines here. Sometimes there's a sentry bot running that will kick you.23:45
NrmlLooks like minimal-live already have newer kernels (which have the equivalent -header packages available) installed... but how do I select it for booting?23:45
Nrml< fsmithred> better not to paste a lot of lines here. -> sorry, will pastebin from now on if more than 2 lines.23:46
fsmithredrefracta isos have kernel and headers. The latest stable has 6.1.0-1123:46
fsmithredit's just devuan respin - only devuan repos23:47
NrmlOK23:47
Nrmlwhere can I find it?23:47
NrmlOK23:47
fsmithredhttps://get.refracta.org/files/stable/23:47
fsmithredwait23:47
NrmlOr better here, as I'm aiming for Daedalus? https://get.refracta.org/files/daedalus/23:48
fsmithredlet me check the version. It might be older.23:48
fsmithredone is a symlink. :)23:48
Nrml:-)23:48
fsmithredbut it might be a 5.x kernel23:48
NrmlNot sure 5.x would cut it23:49
NrmlLooks like the newest stuff is under /experimental23:50
fsmithred6.1.0-11 in daedalus23:50
NrmlOK23:51
fsmithredyeah, if you're ok with i386 the EEE iso is not old.23:51
fsmithredoh, that one might not have headers.23:51
Nrml6.1.0-11 is the booting kernel, right? but it would not solve my issue unless it comes with the respective linux-headers-6.1.0-11 installed23:52
Nrmlyeah23:52
Nrml:-)23:52
fsmithredyes, I include the headers23:52
NrmlThat would solve it23:52
fsmithredand a few other things (rescue and repair apps)23:52
fsmithredif you need non-free firmware, there are debs in the user's home23:52
NrmlSo, https://get.refracta.org/files/daedalus/refracta_12.0_nox_amd64-20230829_1853.iso and Bob's my uncle?23:53
fsmithredor edit sources.list to add non-free-firmware and install from net23:53
fsmithredyeah, you can use the nox if you dont want desktop23:53
Nrmlyeah, no desktop here, I'm strictly a command-line guy23:53
fsmithredlogin:password root:root user:user23:53
NrmlWIll try it, thank you very much fsmithred23:54
fsmithredyw23:54
NrmlOne more question: how hard it is to change minimal-live to boot from the 6.1.0-24 kernel that's already installed?23:54
NrmlIs there a guide or something?23:54
fsmithredlive-sdk - I'll get the git link23:55
fsmithredother way is to make a live iso from your installed system with refractasnapshot23:55
NrmlOK23:56
fsmithredhttps://git.devuan.org/devuan-sdk/live-sdk23:56
fsmithredhttps://refracta.org/docs/readme.refractasnapshot.txt23:57
NrmlI will try with the live-sdk... I rather like the minimal-live system and would rather stick with it23:57
Nrmlthanks again fsmithred, and wish me luck :-)23:58
fsmithredfind me here if it doesn't work23:58
NrmlWill do!23:58
