TimvdeI can apparently still get a free COVID vaccine. It's based on the JN.1 variant apparently. I'm totally not up-to-date with variants. Is it sensible to take it?20:26
LjLTimvde: the most recent vaccine is based on KP.2, which is more recent than JN.1, but the EU has apparently decided to use a mixture. The actual circulating variants are even more recent though, with KP.3 already being replaced by some subvariant or recombinant or I don't even know.20:34
LjLI think I will personally try to get a KP.2 vaccine over JN.1 even if that might mean delaying it a little, but that's not really based on knowing which of them is better targeted to actual current variants20:35
LjLTimvde: also I'm not sure if I understood things correctly, but I think Novavax may be JN.1 while the mRNA vaccines may be KP.2 (not necessarily in general, just what's around in the EU now, or possibly just in Italy in which case it doesn't matter), but if you have a preference wrt mRNA or not, then just consider it may be tied to whether it's KP.2 or JN.120:36
TimvdeThe federal website just says it's JN.120:37
TimvdeComirnaty, so that's Moderna iirc20:37
TimvdeOr is it Pfizer? Damn, I don't even remember.20:37
TimvdeIt's Pfizer20:37
LjLPfizer20:38
LjLThen I guess disregard last message20:39
TimvdeI think the JP.2 vaccines aren't approved by the EMA yet: https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/human-regulatory-overview/public-health-threats/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/covid-19-medicines20:39
TimvdeKP.2*20:40
LjLThen maybe disregard everything I've said ;(20:40
LjLTimvde: good thing the updated vaccine was ready and being considered back in June already... https://www.pfizer.com/news/press-release/press-release-detail/pfizer-and-biontech-receive-positive-chmp-opinion-omicron-420:42

LjLTimvde: [20:52]  superkuh: KP.* are directly downstream JN.1. Novavax's choice to go JN.1 again this year seems well supported enough. I don't think it matters much21:16
TimvdeWhere's that from?21:16
LjL##coronavirus21:18
TimvdeOh, I think I misread the press release you linked21:18
Timvde> Data demonstrate that the Omicron KP.2-adapted COVID-19 vaccine generates a substantially improved response against multiple circulating Omicron JN.1 sublineages as did the Omicron JN.1-adapted COVID-19 vaccine authorized by the European Commission (EC) in July 202421:18
Timvde"as did" != "as compared to"21:18

LjLTimvde: yes that's how I read it. Then again what would the vaccine maker claim21:23
LjLAlso the press release was put out before the current whareveritis variant started rising. I'm not sure if KP.3 and descendants are itself a sublineage of KP.2 or they go back to JN.1 (plus any recombination?)21:24
LjLWith the confusion I feel nowadays I don't really know how I used to successfully follow this stuff before21:25
LjLMaybe I never did and just thought I did21:25
LjLsuperkuh is generally clueful, anyway21:26

BrainstormNew from Marc Veldhoen on Mastodon: (news): In vitro attempts to infect these T cells showed that SARS-CoV-2 viral particles do not infect MAIT cells.
