blizzowAnyone here running nvidia cuda on daedalus?03:08
gnarfaceblizzow: i'm not, but stick around because someone might be. also, you might want to just go ahead and ask the real question to save time.03:11
blizzowSorry, was typing the question and got sidetracked in the install instructions. The .deb instructions puke out because they ask me to install the contrib repo and then do a bunch of nvidia repo install steps.03:13
blizzowThe .run method fails as well - so I tried to pick a pile of cuda/nvidia packages that are listed in aptitude searches.03:14
blizzowI'm still skeptical that I'm getting decent performance out of this card.03:14
gnarfacethe cuda packages aren't already in the repo?03:14
gnarfacei don't know what went wrong exactly, but i have two possible guesses:03:15
gnarface1) you followed outdated instructions from an earlier release before all the cuda packages were already in the repo, resulting in mixed-version incompatibilities; the Linux equivalent of "dll hell"03:16
gnarface2) you used the ill-conceived .run script from nvidia.com which immediately ran roughshod over your dependency tree, and then everything else you tried failed even if you did it right, because your dependency tree was already off-the-rails03:17
gnarfaceunfortunately i can't help you test now because i've switched to AMD, but my first suggestion would be to try a fresh install on a spare drive or partition, and go about it just using stock packages from the repo only (apt-cache search cuda shows it's definitely there) and my second suggestion would be to just stick around until someone else with a nvidia card shows up who can cross-check your steps for you03:19
gnarfacesorry i can't be of more help than that03:20
gnarfacealright, if blizzow comes back make sure they got everything i said03:27
mathewHi. I just noticed that my anacron daily is not running probably. I now run "run-parts -v /etc/cron.daily/apt-compat" but it seems to hang on that script. Can i just remove this script safely?19:51
mathewJust checked the details and the scripts seems to sleep for random of 30 minutes. i uncommented random_sleep and now it runs better. i will change the random time to my needs20:00
