StarrcadeHi, Saw this on R/Linux, does this affect Devuan too?01:03
Starrcadehttps://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/1bqt999/backdoor_in_upstream_xzliblzma_leading_to_ssh/01:03
ted-iousStarfoxxes: It affects the bleeding edge packages but nothing stable.01:30
ted-iousOops.01:30
ted-iousSorry wrong star person.01:31
ted-iousSomebody might want to mention this in the topic for the channel.01:31
onefangI had a power failure, so I have no idea what you are talking about ted-ious.01:41

p1ilcoopenrc chads dont get affected01:58
ted-iousSomebody needs to explain to p1ilco that the backdoor is in the library code and that can affect anything that uses it.04:36
justboscoHello guys, could I ask you if someone has already changed the initsystem, or leave it the default one?06:33
GoatAvengerjustbosco, not quite sure what you mean: "if some one has already changed the initsystem?"  If you are installing Devuan, best to stick with systemV (the default) unless you know more of what you are doing, in which case 'runit,' I believe works reasonably well.07:23
justboscoGoatAvenger: Yes runnit is a good init system07:43
brocashelmrunit and openrc are the other two inits available for usage07:48
brocashelmbut, their service implementation is still lacking compared to other distros; you're still going to have to work with sysv's services to some extent07:49
justboscobrocashelm: You say it's something like MX Linux?08:04
brocashelmmore like debian (with sysvinit + devuan's patched builds of packages that use systemctl originally)08:09
brocashelmif you want a more complete runit implementation, antix or void would suit that08:09
brocashelmlikewise with openrc, alpine or gentoo do it best08:10
brocashelmbut runit and openrc (as inits) do work as they should on devuan, so at least there's that08:11
brocashelmand runit-services is an ongoing conversion of sysv scripts onto runsv08:11
justboscobrocashelm: Thank you very much for the information08:28
iasghello everyone! i upgraded to devuan 5, after much work getting all working, i'm still in the dilemma of whether i should use nftables or keep my old iptables rules14:23
iasgif anyone could help me set up nftables, i'd be very thankful!  i can share my iptable rules14:23
iasgmy main concern is that iptables won't get the care it deserves in the future, and i value privacy and security a lot14:24
iasglet me check if there's also an nftables channel too, btw14:25
iasgseems it's blocked14:26
fsmithred_Is it Apr 1 already?14:27
iasgfsmithred_: not yet14:28
iasgseems there's a translator, i'll give it a try and do some work on my own to make it function14:28
iasgnvm me, I'll just stay with iptables, it works for now. thank you all!15:01
ted-iousIsn't iptables just a different user space app for adjusting the kernel's filters?15:12

majeklahttps://pastecode.io/s/czocp571 This is a basic introduction to nftables configuration.15:37

g593click first link for "Devuan Security"23:44
g593404 doesn't exist23:44
g593uh23:44
g593is there no security team? security news?23:47
CueXXIIIg593: i would use https://www.devuan.org/os/contact for security related bugs. but devuan is mainly debian with only a few changed packages, so security is mostly done by debian, i think23:58
g593shouldn't there be a security team?23:58
g593if it's mostly debian it seems this will be easier task in comparsion23:59
